Batterie Kolimvari on Crete

..... or "Herring's research in mediterraen countries, vol.1"

Hello,

I wanted to share with you some research, that I did on Crete in 2003. On the slope hill above Kolimvari, there are remains of, what I think, a german battery

(quality of sketches is as it was drawn on my knee during the visit)

Names of purpose of bunkers are a guess, so let's visit it:

(3) Leitstand location

In that place there are two bunkers very close to each other, what seems to suggest very close functional cooperation between them. Here's a Leitstand itself:

Please, have a look at dreadfull quality of concrete work - as rebar there were used barbed wire poles.....

The next bunker is very close to the Leitstand, also having one wide angle observation window in the corner:

The next bunker (2) is - what I think - a "messgerat bunker":

and inside (note the goat....)

The next object (1) (not a bunker - just eatrh (or rock) - work). Looks like position of scheinwerfer (??) or light flak.

I have no picture - it was just a group of bushes an rocks - it was better to show in on a sketch.

And the last bunker is a sort of unterstand (4). Resembles a little a KuVer family.

Pictures - entrance from the trench (like a corridor going from the street)

and a window:
Pict0044.JPG
Unfortunatelly, no remains of gun emplacements. A local person said, that something like an emplacement with a trench going inside was destroyed when a parking place was made at the road (I'm not sure about the location of that place...) You can see it on a general plan.

That's it. I'm very interested what you think about typology of these bunkers. My associations go to KuVer or some light Behelfsbau structures, eg. from the post http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic. ... 0&t=118238 . Any ideas, what "bunker family" was used there?

regards
Herring

Hello,

Numbers in names of columns in the first list - is it regelbau number? (e.g unterstand matches number 102 )

Also, in the Crete seems to be a huge mess about names of places - up till now I can see Kolimvari, Kolimwari and Kolimbari - all in one place.

Name Platanias - impossible to find - there are dozens of different Platanias-villages.

Maybe it would be a good idea to collect all the data about Crete in one thread? It seems, that only way to get information about it is to collect information from holiday trips of different members of this forum.

The first list a plannung of St. bunkers in Crete and the fourth column are Unterstanden so the
102 would fit . The names are surely a mess , maybe we can use the Greek names   .
Would be nice if the 4.7 cm Pak K. 36 bunker at Agia Galini and the Tobruks from Crete could
be placed in this Topic .

Here 2 example's of the so called "Kretabauweise" walls of stones and a top of concrete .

The 4.7 cm Pak K 36 (t) is at Agia Galini = Paul Voskamp
The Tobruk is at Maleme = http://www.curme.co.uk
