Unfortunately I don't have a date for the Einsatzgruppe Italien. Here's another plan from the same series.

Re: Batterie Kolimvari on Crete
I'm updating the POI-files for my TomTom (car) and Garmin (off road) satelite navigators from new info being posted here lately, as well as stuff found on other sites.
I'm far from finished (I will add more of the pre-WW2 sites and more of the numerous memorials), but I thought I'd post the list here so I can get some help sorting out errors and of course add sites that are missing...
The file "Crete_Mil-POI.pdf" is just the list with sites and positions as it stands now (never mind the mainland, Rhodes etc. entries - I'm just interested in Crete now).
The file "Crete_Mil-POI.kml.pdf" is a Google Earth file with the entries on the list (Note: It has to be renamed to "Crete_Mil-POI.kml" as the forum won't exept kml or zip files as attachments...).
I appreciate any input and comments - especially info on german remains missing from the list, and in particular locations of german coastal batteries (only two are known so far...).
Of course, I'll share the complete list here when "finished", as well as the TomTom/Garmin POI-files.
I'm going to Crete in september, so I reckon this will be finished in about 8 weeks (note: If anyone would like POI-files for their satnavs before that, just send me a PM and I'll give you what I have at that point).

Still? It was closed already in september 2012, but I was hoping it would be open by now...redgemak wrote:The Chania war museum is closed for restoration until further notice, been there june this year

Well, thank you: That saves me some time struggling with traffic and parking in Chania, and leave more time for other sites

Re: Batterie Kolimvari on Crete
Here's a new version of the pdf, with additional listings of german batteries and strongpoints, of which I (so far) can't find any trace on aerial photos (Google Maps). I'm comparing the locations with the maps provided earlier in the post, but so far no luck (most sites seem to be populated or in use for agriculture today). Note: Orange colour indicates conflicting information.Natter wrote:I'm updating the POI-files for my TomTom (car) and Garmin (off road) satelite navigators from new info being posted here lately, as well as stuff found on other sites.
Also, I have added positions of several memorials, but there are still a lot more to be added to the list.
Again: Any comments and contributions to improve/expand the list are welcome...
EDIT: Yet a new version of the pdf is uploaded at 15:50 (now with all of the objects on Ondrej Filip's map + a lot more listings of ancient fortresses etc). I will probably split the satnav POI files in two: Ancient and WW2 objects.

Re: Batterie Kolimvari on Crete
Have you found any bunker, that was not on my map? I see the "Hill 107" bunkers at your list, but are they really German or British? I am almost sure the bunker at Ierapetra is of Italian origin - it was an Italian occupation zone.Natter wrote:Here's a new version of the pdf, with additional listings of german batteries and strongpoints, of which I (so far) can't find any trace on aerial photos (Google Maps). (It is a hard work with that sources. I have visited Bergen last week and the planning was so easy

Re: Batterie Kolimvari on Crete
As I use different sources, it's hard to tell if one entry is on your map or not. Probably best to check this when I'm finished (if you have a list of your entries in text or excel-format, I can compare and let you know).Ondrej Filip wrote:Have you found any bunker, that was not on my map? Regarding Hill 107: I talked to an ex-Royal Marine who did guided tours there, and he claimed the remains were german. I really don't know for sure, but if there were greek/british posistions before the german invasion, I reckon the germans used them afterwards (and most likely altered/expanded them).
Actually, so far I have only picked the german sites from your map (I will start on italian and the more ancient greek stuff later). I picked this bunker from the TracesOfWar site, were they have this description: "This bunker (presumable German) was constructed during the Second World War and was tasked with the defence of the port of Ierapetra". I reckon you are more correct, so I have changed this from german to italian.Ondrej Filip wrote:I am almost sure the bunker at Ierapetra is of Italian origin - it was an Italian occupation zone.
You should have asked for tips then. I hope you got to see MKB Fjell and Herdla (we opened the torpedobattery as museum a few weeks back, and it's now possible to have guided tours there every sunday).Ondrej Filip wrote:It is a hard work with that sources. EDIT: I have uploaed a new version of the POI-list in the post above ( http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic. ... 1#p1805641 ).

I have found the photo, but was not able to locate exact position. It is situated at Parthenon hill in southeast part of village Kissamos.Natter wrote:You do not have these on your map:Ondrej Filip wrote:Have you found any bunker, that was not on my map?

Next photos without exact coordinates:
1) Ringstand at stone beach of Paleochora
2) Ringstand (and probably Vf-shelter) at inland defence line of Rethymno

Re: Batterie Kolimvari on Crete
This is really confusing, but the photos I found online that was supposed to be "Ag Dimitrious" seem to match the Church of Platanias, so I wonder if this are the same??Natter wrote:Found something called "Ag. Dimitrios Temple" in the old town:

Anyway, looking at the map/aerial photo, I think that the area around the Church of Platanias is a likely candidate for the tunnels and remains mentioned here: http://yanniskakanos.gr/
The church is under 1km from my hotel, so I will be sure to check it out in september (I will go to Kissamos, and ask around for the Pz35 bunker as well).
