Hi all,

According to Ebay photo caption, Batterie Grosser Kurfurst, so I guess 28cm SK L50 gun.
Is this correct ??

Civialian worker instead of an artillery men looks to me like testing site.
Meppen sounds good for navy guns.
Shell looks interesting for me like an old type(?).

I do not believe that this is an old style proof/test "slug" These were made with a blunt nose in order to minimize both range and penetration when fired into earthen berms.

What I meant to say was" this is not an old style projectile but a proof/ test "slug"

I recognise the BSG, but the location is more open. The layout of the BSG is like the ones used with 28 cm SKL/50 Grosser Kurfürst, these were transferred to Kiberg, Norway after G.K. had their new Drehscheiben-Lafette C/37. So it might be Pillau, France or even Borkum.

Hi Janef,
thank you for your replay! I wonder, that the Bettung is very near to the sea or beach.

I would not put too much emphasis on that. I PK photos you had to make sure that the background made it very difficult to identify the location. On a painting this is easy to accomplish.

Post 601: i guess this is a maneuvre cartridge, used for training. the case is brass and the four black dots are the steel nuts and washers holding the wooden filling attached, bolted to the case. nice picture, since i have the maneuvre case for the SKL 30,5 cm, with the same construction.
thanks for sharing!
