It looks like a 2 cm Flak 29 Oerlikon on its German naval pedestal:

(from WW2 in Color)
and with the movable sighting system here:

Yes, Emmanuel. Sure an 2cm Oerlikon gun but other coutries used this gun with very similar pedestal mounts...as the US Navy....

That was my first thought as well, but I don't think it's that easy after all. Plenty of differences: http://www.primeportal.net/artillery/yu ... gsflak_38/

It's a 2 cm Rheinmetall (Solothurn) gun, possibly taken from a cancelled contract for Greece.

It a 2 cm Flak 38 Sondergeschütz for Falchirmtruppe. Designed to be dropped by parachute. There is a illustration of it in Terry Gander and Peter Chamberlains book on German WWII weapons.

Hi Dan, I know you posted that information in the ML thread already. The reason I posted this question here was to get another take on this by a group of people more into artillery/flak than most of the ML readers. There must be more information than just a single book... I was hoping to get more information from other sources without steering anyone in a specific direction to begin with.

Either way, the question now (also) becomes who has more information on the "2 cm Flak 38 Sondergeschütz for Fallschirmtruppe"?
[Also there's this thread: /viewtopic.php?t=136241]

I'd be very interested in seeing a comparison to show the differences between a proper Solothurn ST-5 (canon + mount) and a "2 cm Flak 38 Sondergeschütz for Fallschirmtruppe".

Hi all,

An image from Ebay

Regarding my initial question posted here on Feb.2009 about the Oerlikon guns in German service:

All these Oerlikon guns were purchased in Switzerland or was also manufactured under license in Germany? I know that the air version of this gun was manufactured under license in Germany by Ikaria Werke of Berlin (MG FF and MG FF/M).

Anyone know how many Oerlikon AA guns were purchased in Switzerland and when? Only before war???

According to my notes, original 2 cm Flak 28 guns were bought in Switzerland somewhere after August 1928. But more Oerlikons were captured during the war, I think?
