Vickers Flak

Chamberlain and Gander mention two types of 7,5 cm Vickers flak:

1 the 7,5 cm FLAK Vickers M35 (h), the ex-Dutch Army guns, and

2 the 7,5 cm FLAK VIckers (e), captured British 3 inch guns left behind at Dunkirk.

Why were these last guns also called 7,5 cm as their original calibre was 7,62 cm? Were these guns rebored/rebarreled, possibly to take 75mm ammo?

Hello Nuyt

From what I found I think that the British 3 inch guns were called 7.62 cm Flak Mounting (e)

Thanks Jos!

So Chamberlain and Gander may have made a mistake?

Do you know how many of these guns were available to the Germans?

Italians captured or acquired 24 Vickers 75mm AA. They called it 75/49. I don't know where they come from.

So if I understand it right, the Italians received 24 pieces 7,5 cm Vickers Flak from Dutch stocks?
Is it known if these were original Vickers pieces or Hembrug or Werkspoor ones?

Or maybe the Germans called the original ones the Vickers (e) and the Dutch built ones the M35 (h)? SOUnds more logical and is in line with other weapon designations.

Dili, but the Vickers 75mms were L40. In Italian calculations probably around L36. If those Vickers 75mm acquired by Italy were L49 in Italy, they were probably something like L54 elsewhere. Very long guns.
Then what were they?

By the way there were several Schneider 75mm models of L53 and L54 cal length

I see the issue. I have them in XXV and XXVII Gruppo.

Look at this:

http://www.voloire.co.cc/index.php/comp ... rectory=10

"2(Gruppo) da 75/49 Vickers di preda bellica, (25° e 27° Gruppo)," Preda Belica means captured.

http://www.unosettantadue.net/index.php ... 5&start=30

It is possible that was "preda belica" by Axis allies like Germany, but i don't think so, usually they refer it. So that would give us British,Greece,Yugoslavia,France as possible source of this material.

The Italians had the 75/50 Skoda. I saw increases and decreases in Italian measurements. It appears that Skoda 75/50 was 75/48.

Hello The Edge

AFAIK the Danisch had 24 x 7.5 cm Flak (d) , 6 x guns from Lithuanian and as last Holland 48 x bought from Vickers
and 24 x build in licence till may 1940 . But the guns were kept in production during the war .
Also 7.5 cm Flak Vickers were sold to Turkey , China, Finland and also build in licence by Rumania and Belgium .

Regards Jos
