There is a feature on Cherbourg Naval Base 1940-44 in the current After The Battle magazine (Number 146).

There were actually two S-Bunkers in Cherbourg:
- one in the "Forme Cachin", seen on the first picture of this post, which no longer exists
- one in "Bassin Napoleon IIi" which still exists but is located inside the Navy base:
(German propaganda picture displayed in France and mentioning a U-Boot base instead of S-Boot)

A U-Boot in Cherbourg next to the S-Bunker still existing today in Bassin Napoleon III! 8O I believe it is a type XXI.

No, this is not a scoop  …. but a picture from 1947  . This submarine was on loan from the Royal Navy.

Thank you very much, Sander !

The first picture of these two shows the remains of the Erika station at St-Pierre-Eglise.

The 2nd picture shows the French firing control post at Fort de l'Ouest in Cherbourg harbor.

Hi Sander can you please post the complete flickr page instead of the photo itself. Helps knowing what the source is.

If you search for Cherbourg Bunker in the collection of https://www.flickr.com/photos/photosnormandie/
you'll find high quality scans of the same photos, from the original source.
