Etienne,

The two pictures show the remains of two French submarines sabotaged by the French Navy in the Arsenal in June 1940 before the fall of the city, the ROLAND MORILLOT and the LA PRAYA. The destruction of the ROLAND MORILLOT on June 18, 1940 led to a fire that destroyed the roof of the building.

Picture probably taken in late 1940 since the concrete vault was finished in January 1941 from what I've read.

Here is the same bunker today in the Bassin Napoleon III. The same big white building next to it still stands.

Looking at the clean cut between the roof and walls.
It seems there was a serious problem when pouring the concrete of the roof.
Thanks,

Wim

Dirk,

Thank you for the map. I did not know about the transformer building. I had identified the large building perpendicular to the S-Bunker as a torpedo bunker. Based on the damages, a large quantity of explosives being detonated makes sense.

I was wondering too. I think the roof was built after the walls had set.
