New development plan threathens MKB Vara

Post by Valtoro » 13 Jan 2010 12:39

There are plans (not yet decided) for residental zones and a school on the former grounds to MKB Vara. This will of course completly destroy the historical context of the battery, just imagine houses around a S169!! 8O

Just to let you know what exists in the area, here is a map over the defence perimeter around "Vara". It's somewhat homemade and in Norwegian, but most of the words should be easy to understand. I'm working on a similar map for museum area.

Yes Jos, sadly it could happen in the middle of something that has orginally been planned as a museum area. If this worst scenario happens, people wanting to visit Vara, should make plans to do so in the very near future.

Valtoro,

This is more than 1 year ago, but could you give us an update on the present situation?

Thanks in advance,

Maurice

Hello Maurice,

The Norwegian National Conservator (Riksantikvaren) has made planes to stop parts of the development plan, so we are perhaps looking at a finalization of the area as a permanent museum area. The bad news is that developer is still lobbying with the help of several politicians to revoke these planes.

In short, nothing is yet completly decided.
