Helgoland fortifications

#1

Post by Sturm78 » 07 Apr 2011, 13:22

Hi all,

I found this interesting photoserie of the dismantling of a 30.5cm SK L50 gun turret in Helgoland island in 1920-21.
Does somebody know the name of this batterie?

Any additional image of Helgoland fortifications (WW1 or WW2) will be wellcome

Hello

Aparently the 21 cm. and the 30,5 cm. Battery was called "Nordgruppe".

These books can be recomended - if still available:

Hochseefestung Helgoland Teil I - 1891 - 1922 - ISBN 3-9805415-1-7
Hochseefestung Helgoland Teil II - 1934 - 1947 - ISBN 3-9805415-2-5

Wow, nice rare pictures. It looks a bit like the one they build in Zeebrugge in 1917. A very simple design with only concrete pillars to hold the roof

I bought those photos and received them today. It seems of all UBB which existed, the ones in Germany are the least photographed. for example, the book by Mallmann-Showel on German U-Boatbases & bunkers shows not a single picture of the Helgoland bunker, although there is a chapter on it.

A google search also did not reveal many phots of this one. These remains are however interesting, not sure however if these really are from the UBB : http://www.panoramio.com/photo/42724811

Kind regards,

Maurice
