Husvik Battery (Near Oscarsborg)

Post by jerseybunkers » 10 Apr 2011 00:07

Is anyone able to confirm the exact make, nationality and model of 57mm guns used at this battery? A photo would be even better!

It is for an article I am providing to a local organisation.

Many Thanks

2 x 57 mm Cockerill L 60 ( bore lenght or L 62 total length )
mounted on 4 x wheels / trolley .
17 x guns bought , 10 x 57 mm guns to Oscarsborg Fortrsss and

The local organisation is the Jersey Privateers Wargaming Club - a Drobak scenario using Axis & Allies miniatures - I am going to provide some historical information on the battle that actually took place. I find it surprising but wargamers are very expert on things like artillery and go to a great level of detail, I had (mistakenly) always thought things were not looked at in as much detail as we fortifications buffs do!

I visited Oscarsborg a few years ago - a fabulous site, one of my favourites.

Thank you for posting info it is perfect.

Regards

I suggest moving/copying this to the Movies and Games forum so that others interested can benefit?

57 mm Cockerill L 60
Hellen used this too ? If so its possible to get photos and some details of the breech and shield.
I have som pictures of some 57 guns on german VP boats in norwegian waters, the guns being of norwegian origin.
Could this be the same 57 mm guns used on norwegian fortress ?

Hello Stril ,
57 mm Cockerill L 60 deployment :
Oscarsborg Fortress :
Nesset 4 x guns
Fugleredet 2 x guns
Husvik 2 x guns
Svelvik 2 x guns
Bergen Fortress :
Kvarven 3 x guns
Litlebergen 2 x guns
Hagelsund 2 x guns
These 57 mm Cockerill were reused by the Germans on VP , probable on :
Alversund / Biene II
Oster / Marder
+ other units ???
Recognition : long gun barrel + curved front shield + Nordenfelt eccentric screw
Hellen ???
Nedre Sandviksfjellet used 2 x 65 mm Cockerill L 43 1898 - 1917 , the guns were
redeployed to Faroy .
Nedre Hellen , unsure , belive it to be a training battery after 1945 with 2 x 10,5 cm SKC/32 ???

Hello Stril ,
Thanks for the uploading !
1) photo marked VP , J have look more into this interesting gun - -
2) photo marked Königsberg 0095 have a screw breech open to right
Norwegian 57 and 65 mm Cockerill have the Nordenfelt eccentric
screws ( as in the the French 75 mm field gun M 97 and Norwegian
field gun M/01 Rheinische ) . It is not the 65 mm Hotchkiss which
used the vertical wedge / dropblock + angled front shield .

Heres a photo that im sure is the type of artillery. Its located in Kuivasaari in Finland. In the file of the picture it says 'Hotchkiss 57mm' and this artillery is a Cockerill but if you check the information sign of Husvik the artillery looks really similar. Am i wrong or right?

Hello ,
Husvik battery used two 57 mm L 60 Cockerill guns with an Nordenfelt eccentric screw , hope this link works :

https://digitaltmuseum.no/0210111877502/om-f-004736

The photo code is OM-F.00436

The Finnish photo shows an 57/58 H ( 57 mm L/58 Hotchkiss ) with vertical breech
