French 380 mm/45 Modèle 1935 gun

#1

Post by Harpoon » 29 Apr 2011, 17:19

I have started making a model of the regelbau S536 (MAA 6/501Nötteröy) with the French 380 mm/45 Modèle 1935 gun. The plan is to make a model of planned design as well as it ended when the Germans surrendered. I anyone have any detailed photos or drawings of this gun it will be highly appreciated.

As my model of C/39 BSG (Bettungschiessgerüst) is nearing completion this is one of my next project.

Below are the most promising photos and drawings found of this gun. Resolution as found. Also my model of S536 at this stage together with my nearly finished 38 and 40.6.

Cheers
/Anders

Hi Jos,
hard to see doors on this picture as it was not the topics focus but, yes I used Rolf’s drawing as a basis and the right shell rooms only opening is the blast gate. So I mirrored the left side and many other details are also borrowed from the S169 casement. Anyhow the building site would not facilitate this bunker so I expect the plans were altered along the way.

I found hi-res versions of the drawings here:
http://www.servicehistorique.sga.defens ... php?id=468
The gun drawings is the ones with filename starting with RICHELI1940PLII-

This helps a lot but picture would also be very helpful!

Thanks, Jos
Had hopes for a picture of the breech. It’s seems straight and they are normally hard to get out in contrary to cone shaped from for example Bofors. The grooves have to be deep and they seem to be 90 degrees apart which explains a bit.

Dear Friends, Dear Patrick,

You are right, the last picture had been taken in Le Havre-Bléville, inside the only one built turret. The battery is situated in "La Corvée" and not "La Ramée".

Best regards from Le Havre,

Does anyone know what type of regelbau bunker that was planned for this battery?

Hello Anders

I think the bunkers of the M.K.B. Le Havre ( Bleville ) were also S 536 , do you think that the rooms
ammo - and machinerooms of the M.K.B. Oslofjord should be drilled in the rock or made in concrete ??

Definitely all was going to be inside the rock. It gives better protection, camouflage and saves concrete. The bunker layout has one obvious flaw, how to get the ammunition and people inside? The S169 from Møvik or the other regelbaus for BSG C/39 seems to be a much better design. Each gun pit at Vardås is inside the rockface and would be imposible to see from the sea and also hard to spot from the air when complete and camouflaged. They have five or four tunnel openings and also a long access tunnel from the other side of the mountain. My goal is to show this in the model
Attached is a plan showing the tunnels. The drawing don’t differ between roads and tunnels but it’s possible to figure it out. Credit Yngvar at Kystfort.com

Thanks’ Jos.
You got a better copy of the report than me; I can barely see it’s the same photos lol. They do indicate that the gun (inside the turret) was painted in a light color and not olive as currently in my model. Model still in progress but has been put on hold for some time due to other obligations.
