The mother of all Tobruks

#1

Post by SES » 23 Jan 2012, 11:15

Hi,
The legend goes that the Tobruks we find in Europe were named after an original construction first used by the Wehrmacht in the defence of Tobruk in Libya.
In connection with our ongoing discussion on Tobruks I have unsuccessfully been trying to find pictures/drawings of the original Tobruk. Can anyone help please.

Hi SES,

The French magazine "Seconde Guerre Mondiale" Thématique Nr 11 (November 2011) is completly dedicated to the battle for Tobruk in 1941 and I can remember that there were there differents plans of the fortification around Tobruk and also a nice picture of a ringstand occupied then by Aussies soldiers. Unfortunatly, I'm now onboard my ship and don't have this magazine under the hand. Maybe someone else on the forum has this magazine at home and can scan this particular picture.

Gr.

Hi stril,
Yes they were built by Italian and not German forces.
