Command bunkers in army coast battery's
Re: Command bunkers in army coast battery's
now I'd like to make also plans for the variants of the type 1, the type 2 and its variants, and as many other bunkers as possible (Vf, regelbauten, SK, ...). Especially those types which could be found in De Panne area at the time.
Whoever can provide me with accurate measurements for whatever of the above mentioned types... please do... you'll get full quality copies once finished. All commentary on how to improve my drawings is also welcome.

Great drawing Jean, what program are you using to make these?

Thanks Simon
I use Photoshop; I make these drawings first in a 1/10 scale, afterwards I resize them to fit an A4 format...
It isn't the most appropriate program for such applications but it offers many features which are very usefull to do so.

Hello Jean
Good drawing , but if it's La Panne it must be K.V.A. A 3

you're right Jos! What a mistake to make for someone living in De Panne... Shame on me.jopaerya wrote:Hello Jean

I will change it in to 'B'; those interested can always PM me for a high quality (A4-format) copie.
...
Does anybody know the height of these doors for this specific bunkertype, also the height of the observationslit remain a question to me?
Thx
Jean
Re: Command bunkers in army coast battery's
Hello
another observationbunker - therefore possibly also used as a commandpost - in De Panne (BE - AOK15 KVA A3)
Noticing the buildings on both sides in the background this bunker had to be standing somewhere on the beach in the middle of the De Panne aglomeration (not at the extremities of De Panne; east = Stp Wrangel, west = Stp von Rundstedt/FunkMessAnlage PONY).
I'm still searching old postalcards to see if I can find a building resembling those in the background hoping to pinpoint the exact location of this bunker.
(it looks like this bunker has been shot from the side; noticing the slit on the left I think this bunker must be pointing to the left - where the sea should be - .... therefore this bunker was possibly standing in a small sidestreet of the seadike?)
noticing the size of this bunker; could anyone help to ID this bunkertype??

Re: Command bunkers in army coast battery's
Very strange?
the photo which I got from this website http://www.westhoekverbeeldt.be/beelden ... ken=zoeken clearly mentions it was shot in De Panne by a professional photographer (owner of a photostudio) living in De Panne... would be strange to misplace this bunker halfway the Belgian coast.
... of course, since so many years have past, information must have been mixed resulting in this mixup...
although I keep the possibility open, this bunker being at De Panne (??); if I'm not mistaken this was the same photographer who catalogued all bunkers in De Panne by taking photo's. These photocollections of which only a few copies were made are all part of private collections, amongst who my own father is one of the owners...
Also keeping in mind that there is still a lot te be discovered concerning De Panne (many dots on the wellknown map of De Panne remain unanswered up to today), I think it is wise to keep open all possibilities.
(I did sent a note to the administrators of this site to inform them about your information)

Re: Command bunkers in army coast battery's
Dirk was right! The people at WesthoekVerbeeldt already confirmed their mistake by e-mail and will change the information on their website.
Knowing it is at the Kursaal (= casino) in Ostend, the pencil writings underneath the photo become clear and actually spell 'Kursaal'
Nice bunker!!

Re: Command bunkers in army coast battery's
I know the site since long, which is very usefull to me as I am an inhabitant of De Panne, part of the Westhoek.
Sadly enough, this far, not much about WW2... but new photos are being added every day (some interesting WW2 photos on De Panne which I've already seen are sceduled for uploading ... some day). But very usefull in relation to recoginition of buildings and WW1 related topics.
I know Wim I've should have doublechecked before misplacing the canon 'Lange Max' on another topic of mine
