according to some inhabitants of De Panne - Adinkerke there was also a 'leitstand'- towerlike building located near the HKB Duinhoek (La Panne). This far I couldn't verify it's position on aerials, nore do I know anything more about the form of the construction itself, but I would/could be logic that a leitstand of this type stood there also??

it's been some time since i took these photo's but if I recall well the date mark can be found on the first floor right of the doorway leading to the front room (wall measuring 52 cm)... if not it's on the second floor on the wall right of the doorway leading to the observationroom (wall measuring 155 cm)

Hello Dirk

The bunker inside the battery itself is not a Leitstand but a beobachtung bunker. The Leitstand was located further ahead of the battery close to the the beach. It is usually a HKB type 1 that is used for the 9 early HKB (1940-1941) on the Belgian Coast.


Each of this early HKB had a leitstand (Haupt) on the beach and a beobachtung (Nah-Beobachtung) inside the battery.

I just don't have picture or drawing of the one from the HKB 2./823 (Stp Dresden, later Stp Kleist II) in the wood of Wenduine

The one from Mariakerke (HKB 3./823) is in fact a VF commando bunker (the exact denomination of this VF bunker is still unknown) with a Beobachtung tower on top of it
