OK thanks
As the 611's in Cabour have hinges on both sides of the scharte, I guess the door was metal door was never placed and replaced by wooden doors (as for the entracedoor/gate to the gunroom)

I found the number 7 56 FH 88 painted on a wall inside the gunroom of one of the R611 on this location.
Can someone help and fill me in on what this number could mean?
(If I look for artillery I find a fieldhowitzer designed for the Singapore army post war... but that's not possible of course)

Re: K418(f) open emplacement and Stp. Ost-W 049 (4./252)
Would a 88mm gun fit in a R611 ???
When researching the number I found inside the bunker (7.56 FH88) I find only 1 modern Singapore Gun which fits the exact designation of FH88... but when reasoning and researching further 'FH' could be the abreviation of 'FeldHaubitze', which would make this the wellknown 88mm gun. The traveling weight of a 88mm gun is exactly 7.56 tons !!? (as the gun must be hauled out of it's bunker to place in the open emplacement it would seem logic to mention this travelingweight on the inside wall of the gunroom.

There is no 88mm Feldhaubitze. So which 88mm are you referring to where did you find that 7.56 tons weight?
I remember this battery was armed with 15cm guns? According to this map. http://www.fortificatieforum.nl/viewtop ... =69&t=1520

Hi arthur, thanks for your answer
I'm referring to the 8.8 Flak... it's the only thing I can make of it. And the travellingweight of a 8.8 I found on a site of someone selling such a gun. A 8.8 is not really a fieldgun... but it could be used that way? No? (as it is used in many batteries and even on tanks)
If such a 8.8 doesn't fit inside a R611 we can rule it out... but the number which i found has to mean something

I copied the map thanks to pierrot. As you can see next to the symbol it says 15 which means 15cm. Could be 15,5cm French guns.
Heeres divisional artillery didn't have 8.8 Flak. It's not a howitzer and not suitable to fire at the beach.

Yes I know this map... normally there where 4 x 15cm canons.
The fact that it's stated on a map is just a moment in time, and doesn't mean this stayed the same way for the duration of the war.
I'm just trying to find a logical explanation for this number inside the bunker... thanks for your thoughts, so it seems less likely it has something to do with the 8.8.
Could the numbers and the abreviation FH refer to anything else.

Yes it's a moment in time. You should find the list of used guns by the 4./252. If you have a photo we can determine if the text is German. It could be anything.
Re: K418(f) open emplacement and Stp. Ost-W 049 (4./252)
I didn't have my camera with me... but it's not written in a specific germanlike font... it's painted by hand in broad white lines

Hello Jean and Arthur,
Hereunder a picture of the text in question. I am not sure it is something in relation with the guns.
First known occupation of the Cabour battery is with the 7./AR 139 from the 39.Inf.Div. between Nov 1942 and Feb 1943. 4 x 15 cm s.FH 18
Second occupation by the 4./RAA 252 from the 171.Res.Inf.Div between Feb 1943 and Jan 1944. 4x 15 cm s.FH 18
Third occupation by the 8./AR 148 from the 48.Inf.Div. between Jan 1944 and Aug 1944. 4x 12.2 cm s.FH 396(r)
Fourth and last occupation by the 1./RAA 179 from the 182.Res.Div. between Aug and Sept 1944. Type of guns unknown to me.
There were never 15.5 cm K418(f) guns in the open emplacements in Cabour. The open emplacements are to small to fit a K418 (f). The early position of the HKB La Panne is known and is elsewhere in Adinkerke ( remains of 2 bettungs exist in the wood as well as one wellblech).
