Bunkernumbers in the sector "Pas de Calais"

#1

Post by jopaerya » 23 Sep 2012, 10:31

Hello All

Most of the bunkernumbering systems in the A.W. are logical and are wellknown , I still have a problem with
the bunkernumbers in the K.V.A. B , C and D ( from the Belgium border to the rivermouth of the Somme )

Does somebody have a clue to crack this code or also picture's from bunkernumbers from this sector are
very welcome .

Regards Jos

Hi Jos

No specifics on the bunkernumbers, but what I did notice - concerning KVA B; when starting at the border (practically) all strongholds east of Bray-dunes start with the letter 'A', west from Bray-dunes start with the lettre 'B' and followed by the letter 'D' for those strongholds in between Leffrinckoucke and Dunkirk.
... not so much an answer to your question, but something I have been wondering about since long and seems appropriate overhere.

One of the first bunkers, starting at the Belgian border, is the 668 of the Stp. Anna with the number 1/75a.

They've just started coding those Wn/Stp with names beginning with A.

Could the first number be the first batch of bunkers, and the second number the bunker's individual number, so with no connection to the the Stützpunkt itself.

Hi Arthur

You could be right , the first number the number in the Stp. or W.n. and the last the
unique number for the bunker . Here some example's that I found so far on old picture's
from the sector K.V.A. B ( belgian border to Calais ) .

Stp. Anna................668...............1/75a
Stp. August..............668...............4/012
...........................607...............6/015
W.n.Blei.................502...............2/018
...........................134...............4/019
...........................134...............?/020
...........................134...............?/021
W.n.Werf...............505................21/45
Stp. Eduard.............501...............15/125
...........................501...............17/126
...........................134...............16/127
Stp Molenfuss West.....630...............9/144
Stp.Enzian...............502...............13/178

Regards Jos

P.S. Thanks Jean

Stp. Preussen.................631..................38/73
.................................505..................39/74
Stp. Malervilla................502...................7/84
.................................W.B..................36/88a
Stp. Sauerland................600...................35/88
Stp. Ehrenbreitstein.........117a..................1/107
.................................117a..................2/108

to add to the KVA B list:
- Stp Eduard (Ecluse Watier - Dunkirk Harbour): second 501 to the east: 15(6)/125 (The six is painted underneath the 15 in another colour) edit: didn't notice you've already had this one, perhaps the six dates back to on earlier stage of the war.- Stp Molenfuss West (Dunkirk Harbour): 630: 9/144

Concerning the namegiving: The startingletter could indicate some kind of subdivision?? Is it seen elsewere on the AW, strongholds grouped by startingletters in alfabetical order?

In case there was some kind of 'geoghrapical' order in the namegiving/numbering it could be usefull to map out al the known numbers/names to uncover this order.

Hello Jos,

I have a few numbers more from Dunkirk ( Stp Graf, Stp Galland, WN R,...) I will check tomorrow in my computer.
I think also Alain Chazette gives some numbers in his purple book; from memory I think about a 502 in Stp Detlev (Malo-les-Bains) and the SK artillerie-commando in the same town. I don't have the book here onboard, if someone can check this.

Hi Pierrot
Are we then taking about this SK artilleriebunker: http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic. ... 0&t=192427?
... and, this Stp Detlev is new to me. Could you point out it's location and tell me if anything remains overthere?

seems to me this Mr. Chazette and his books, could be of great interest for me... I should go and buy some of his books, this far I have only dutch books on the AW.

Hi Jos

Stp Galland..................L409..............1/13
Stp Galland..................L409..............3/14
Stp Galland..................L410..............2/15
WN T..........................R515..............23/15
WN Molenfuss Ost.........R515..............4/39
Stp Graf......................L413..............45/60
Stp Muncheberg...........L410...............1/96

You should ask to Tom Oliviers, some of these numbers come from bunkers he dug out with his team in the area.
Ask also to Dirk and Etienne, I think some numbers were visible too in the 501 and 502 they dug out inside Stp Adolf.

Hello

Bt. Flugplatz - Le Portel (Boulogne-sur-mer west)
most western laying/first R671.........................52/84
second R671..................................................51/83
third R671 (converted to leitstandt).................. ??/86
fourth R671 yet to visit

Apparently the first number(s) are not refering to the stronghold itself as AvB already suggested. Otherwise they would be the same
