List of Nomenclature for German and Foreign Artillery
Here is a document I found and scanned at NARA that may be of use to members of this forum. It is a US Army Technical Intelligence Report from 1945 that lists German nomenclature for both German and Foreign Artillery in German use. Of course, as a wartime intelligence document it probably has some errors and omissions, yet I think it is a useful reference document.
You can download the document here - http://downloads.sturmpanzer.net/MLW/Ge ... illery.pdf

There is lots of data in one place. When I saw the document, I thought it would be useful to the members of this forum because there seem to be quite a few discussions about the designations of the various artillery pieces.

I have tried to download the document several times and the error message states that "the document is damaged and cannot be repaired".

Hi. I just tried the link. Works for me. The document is a .pdf, so you do need software that can read that format. If you still can't download it, send me an email at digitalhistoryarchive(at)verizon.net and I will send the document to you.

Re: List of Nomenclature for German and Foreign Artillery
I'm just no too sure, first three digits of these four digit numbers identifying ammunition types (introduced already in 1943, including rockets and mines) come from the drawing number, as stated in the document presented above.
For example, the 10,5 cm Sprgr. 4971 has the drawing number 13C1443. Or maybe it's just an exception in this case?
