M.K.B. St Adresse

Post by jopaerya » 14 Feb 2013 13:16

Hello All

I have a quistion about the gunbunkers of this naval coast batterie at le Havre ,
looks on arial picture's that was a hexagonal bettung that was later fitted with a
concrete roof . On the picture's you can see the back of the bunker is round so
all ammorooms and other rooms must have been in the hexagonal bettung .
On one picture 2 you can see the squire brick camouflage witch also recieved a
roof of nets as you see on photo 4 . On all arial picture's the front of the bettung
is not visiual but on photo 4 you can see the front of the bettung .
Please any information or correction is welcome .

Photo's = Sébastien Haule , Dirk Peeters and Ebay .

Jos,

In Alain Chazette's book "Les batteries de côte en Normandie - Du Havre à Cherbourg - 1940-1944", one can find the Gliederungen of Battr. St-Adresse in July 1943 and in June 1944, thus, after the transfer of the battery in December 1942 from Cap de la Hève to the "Nice" havrais (Note for the people not familiar with Le Havre: "Nice" is a reference to the city on the French Riviera, not the English adjective "nice").

The Gliederung of July 1943 indicates one 4 cm AA gun "Vick.Arm." (e).
Vick.Arm = Vickers-Armstrong.
This would correspond to the QF 2 pdr « pom-pom » naval AA gun and would fit the 4 cm S.K. guns captured by the Germans at Dieppe from British ships.

In June 1944, one 4 cm (e) AA gun was still with the battery.

The Gliederungen, thus, would indicate that at least one of the 4 cm guns captured at Dieppe was installed at MKB St-Adresse at Cap de la Hève and followed the battery to its new position at the Nice havrais. There are no other 4 cm AA gun in MKBs around Le Havre .

The following picture shows a bunker with Ste-Adresse's Nice Havrais in the background. Therefore, it has to be located at MKB Ste-Adresse. Any idea what type of bunker it is and where it was located precisely within the battery?

Dear Emmanuel,

It was a small VF bunker build just in front of Casino Marie-Christine. Other pictures of this bunker had been published in Jean-Paul & Jean-Claude Dubosq's book (2 vol.), Le Havre, 1940-1944, cinq années d'occupation en images.

Maybe cheaper to buy the picture directly from BAMA or to buy the book "Les batteries de côte en Normandie 1939-1944" as the picture appears on page 77.
