Wn's 94 and Wn 98(a)

#1

Post by JKernwerk » 08 May 2014, 16:56

We are leaving for Normandy at the end of the month for the commemorations and visiting bunkers but have some gaps in my to do/see list.
Who knows where the 2x 622 at La Halte du Vey were built?
I can not find them on Google Earth, could it be they are destroyed with the building of the D444?

And who can tell me if there are still bunkers left of WN 98 or 98a at Brevands or Tourlaville?

Thanks for your help.

Hi Kurt,
The grey building in Brevands is not a bunker but a shed, or could it be that the bunker is under the shed?
We are going to visit Wn 99 (that's the plan though), nice te see there was a footbridge over the canal, we now have to drive allaround to reach Wn 100 at Le Grand Vey's!
Thanks alot JK

Bonjour,
Just made aware of the existence of this post, it would be possible for some enthusiasts to complete the following information, collected by me but for which errors in the field of "Bunkerarchéo" could be lodged.
_ Widerstandsnest 99 / K.V.U.Gr.Vire
Established in an area of Polders (Dutch word meaning; Land reclaimed from the sea), at a place called "La Digue", it controls access to the Carentan channel. Its garrison on June 15, 1943 amounts to; 1 non-commissioned officer and 13 men with 11 rifles, 1 M.Pi, 2 Pistols and 2 le.MG.34. In fixed endowment, we find: 1 s.MG.14 (p), 2 lafette for s.MG.34, 1 le.Gr.W.203 (f), 1 le.MG.311 (f) in turret ( FT 17) and 1 Handscheinwerfer. The Germans will choose to scatter the various fortifications along this waterway in order to cover a larger area. To this end, the fulcrum is organized around three satellites, Wn 99a, b and c, comprising in order the following means;
_ Widerstandsnest 99a
To the north, a Vf.1a shelter, two small locally designed bunkers, a Vf MG.Stand, completed by a Tobruk Vf.15 for the.MG.311 (f) in turret (FT 17).
_ Widerstandsnest 99b
To the south, a Vf.2a shelter, a small ammunition bay and a Tobruk for R.35 /Pz.Drehturm 3.7 cm Kwk.144 (f) mit MG.311 (f) turret. This is a typical construction of this sector since it was built by diggers from Fest.Pi.Stab.11, then located in Isigny.
Set back from the positions mentioned, a little more to the east (Wn 99c), a second Vf.2a shelter flanked by bunkers is completed by a Tobruk Vf.8, in charge of prohibiting the passable track.

_ Widerstandsnest 100 / K.V.U.Gr.Vire
This support point, created late (November 1943?), Took place in La Bucaille, a locality east of Brévands. Although planned to be part of the defensive network, it seems that a lack of resources has prevented any work on the site. However, in the reports issued by the 352.Inf.Div during the day of June 6, we will note the presence of Wn 100b at Villadon.

Regards and merci beaucoup.
AETIUS/Romain
