German bunker in Spain
This stout metal bunker is situated at Urdax (Navarra), just across the frontier with France in the grounds of the ‘La Koska’ restaurant. The owner told me that it was German but that he’d bought it from someone in France and had had it transported to its present location. He uses it for storing garden tools but the entrance is narrow and protected inside by metal chicanes. It’s a truly massive structure, the walls some 2 inches thick. I’m wondering whether this is a standard model or whether it was put together locally. Does anyone recognise this kind of thing?

Oliver

Re: German bunker in Spain
It looks to me like OT-Stahlunterstand Typ A (Typ D has access doors placed symetrical)
By the way dimensions of 3 knwon to be existing:
Typ A 290x204
Typ D 337x222
Typ Z 337x234

Re: German bunker in Spain
Thanks, chaps, for the information. Unfortunately I can’t remember whether there is an escape hatch at the rear but I fancy not. On the day in question, I didn’t have my camera but a friend took the shots and gave me prints later; the pix that I have posted are scans of her prints.
How many of these type ‘D’ structures survive?
The restaurant owner speaks some French but I guess he’s more at home in Basque or Spanish.

Re: German bunker in Spain
Looking at the place Urdax , it could be a O.T. Stahlunterstand that was used in the Pyrenaënfront ??

I did not see any photo of preserved OT-Stahlunterstand A before. Also the preserved shelters of version Z are very rare. It looks you have made a great discovery!
As I know, those steel shelters has been used at Apennines (Gustav line etc.), at the 1944 at Poland (especially B1-line) and Pyrenees. There were used also at the Italian Cold War fortifications.

Absolutelly a great find!
Other existing ones are also still in Belarussia, but covered with concrete.
Untill now it's known, that Type A was used in B1 line in Poland, Drachen Stellung and Biber Stellung in former USSR, in Italy and in Pyrenees.
Picture on Tradytor website is taken from the report about Rimini in Italy.
What would you recommend in "La Koska" menu?
