Marine Lazarett St Idesbald ( Belgium )
Marine Lazarett St Idesbald ( Belgium )
In the Home Edouard Pecher at St Idesbald a naval hospital was located during the war .
A typical naval "Luftschutzbunker" was build beside the hospital , far as I know the bunker
is now gone .

Hello everybody,
The Marine lazaret was there only in the early years of the war, it is not more mentioned on the gliederung of 1943.
But on the same place in 1943 ans 1944, we found the Stp Radetski where a Bat.HQ was located. They most probably reused the LS bunker for this purpose. The big red crosses painted on the roof of the Home Pecher building were still visible at the end of the war.

For Jos : the bunker is gone. Only one MG nest remains from this position today.

Found in the book "Die organasatorische Entwikkelung der Marine nebst Stellenbesetzung 1948 bis 1945"
from Hildebrand , that the personel of the Marinelazerett St. Idesbald(es) was relocated on 28-02-1943
to Montpellier . That fits with your story .

Helllo,
Due to a tip someone give me, I recalled a small square red brick construction (bunker) we used to play in as a kid... so I went and had a look; and yes, it is still there. I'm not quite shure if it belonged to the Marine Lazaret or the Wn. Radetski, but if so, we can say yet another small structure survived apart from the MG-emplacement which is in ruins. This small brick construction could also be a pre-war construction... but the thickness of the concrete reinforced roof rather indicates it being a wartime structure. It could easily be one of the square structures which can be distinguished on the aerial posted by Jos. This construction has 1 square room measuring aprox. 3 by 3m, it has one door, a post-war bricked up window and at least two chimneys. As it has two (or more) chimneys i would think it was some kind of small machinebunker?
Notice; nowadays it lays on the boundary of what seems to be a small (unofficial) BMX terrain... so I guess it is freely accessible to the public, also noticing the hikingpath passing through of which the entrance is some what hidden amongst the houses. Possibly it will be incorporated into the nature reserve 'Houtsaegerduinen', which would make it 'inaccessible' as it is prohibited to leave the hikingpaths inside the reserve.
