Hi,

Does anyone know if a device was provided to block the hole which mounted a Pz.B.W.F. when the episcope was removed?

I know the 'Schnabel' was detachable from the rest of the tube holding the scope so it could be replaced if damaged or a 'Stopfen' could replace the 'Schnabel' if the bunker was not expecting to see combat for an extended period if time but the mounting tube needed to be unbolted to change them.

But it was the norm to dismount the optics and store them in their cases for general protection so something would be needed to plug the resulting hole!

Any ideas?

Regards,
Malcolm :milwink:

Are you thinking of such iron parts as these?
They fit around the rear end of armoured pipe for the periscope.

Hi Jens,

Thank you for your reply. I am looking for the metal 'tube' that fits inside when the periscope is not in use as in your 1st photo (not the hinged bits that hold the optic in).

Have you got any more photos of them?

Hi Malcolm,

Do you mean this part then?

It is a simple tube: total length: 10,2 cm, length of thickest part: 8,3 cm. Inner Ø: 8,3, max outer Ø: 10,2 cm.

Yes that is it and thank you for posting Jens!

Never seen one locally although several of the 'Stopfen' to replace the 'Schnabel' head do survive.

Hi,

We have just published a little film demonstrating the use of the Panzer-Beobachtungs-Winkelfernrohr.
