Mittelbau Dora (Nordhausen)

#1

Post by Andrzej Ditrich » 27 Dec 2014, 22:35

The best known underground factory in Germany.
Here a photo made S.C. US Army.
Interesting is wooden structure which is now gone(?). What was the purpose of this structure?
Does anybody know exactly in which part of tunnels the photo were taken?
I guess end part as the rocket is almost finaly assembled.

Hi Andrzej,
I'm not sure, but the tunnels were built in different layers of soft rock so its possibly a support frame to prevent (relatively small) pieces of debree falling down.
A rocket is offcourse a very sensitive machine that you should mount together in a very clean environment
Other option is that it's a bekisting (dont know english word) for the concrete layer that was poured over the tunnel.

Awesome picures by the way!
It's amazing that they made a functioning rocketfactory with quite good results in an old mine (and new drilled tunnels!)
Part of the complex was in use for building V 1 rockets, and also the Wasserfall.

You can find 3 pages of interiour photos here:

http://pallas.cegesoma.be/pls/opac/plsp ... l/opac.htm

How to find them?
- open the link
- select 'fototheek' in the right collum
- now type 'Dora' in the searchbox and click 'Zoeken' (=search)
- in the given resultspage, click on 'Dora' (should be the first word in het small list)
- in the given results, click the third result 'collectie Algoet: Dora 1945 - 30 fotos' to see the photos
(from this same page with results you can find and select several other items related to the Nordhausen Dora factory)

Enjoy!!

Those photos aren't mittelbau dora. That's the V 2 repair facility at Kleinbodungen potash mine. near dora, but not quite the same.
