Panther Bodenturm
Panther Bodenturm
Hello!
Last year a so called "Panther Bodenturm" was found near Stettin in Poland.
Originally it was placed upon a bunker to protect a railway bridge.
Has anyone heard what happened to it???
On the photo it looks nearly intact, What plans are made for it in the future??

I think (by looking at the date) this must have been one of my first postings here!
Finally found some more info on the Panther turret

Panther Bodenturm
Hello All,
Been busy and hadn't been able to get back to the forum. I just wanted to correct myself on the turret (sorry I was sat in front of the PC in the middle of the night updating).
In fact the turret was found September last year during railway repair work (not road as I said on the site). The railway authorities were forced to recover the turret as it posed a problem (we were hoping it was a complete tank!!).
The turret will be restored and become the centre piece of a military exhibition in Stettin.
I will have photos of this once it happens.
btw This is the second such structure to be unearthed.
Best Wishes
Si.

Once again, I have to add something on this old tread
I`m avare of the concrete "Regelbau 687", but I have also heard about a version mounted on a "steel frame or box" and even wooden constructions!
Any info on these 2 strangers?
Here is the R-687

Panther Ostwallturm
Three models(From Panther Variants 1942-45)
Pantherturm I (stahluntersartz):With steel box base
Pantherturm III (Betonsockel) :Concrete base (regelbau 687?)
Panther-Turm A (Schnelleinbau): Wooden bunker base
I think that the first two are often confused as the first were usually covered (The steel box) with concrete .

More on the subject
Concrete and wooden bunkers.
In the disabled example you can see why I think steel box and concrete based are often confused: The steel box is clearly visible showing the turret ring and surrounded by concrete...
The turrets came from two sources:
From disabled Panthers- from D to G -without modifications.
Specially modified ones with reinforced roof ,with a simplified commander hatch (No cuppola, only a rotating episcope) and only a Nahverteidigungswaffe (Gun fumes were expelled thought turret ring)
I have seen both kind of turrets in steel and concrete based Panther Ostwallturm but only of the second in -What I think could be- wooden bunkers (Colour pic) this one shows a hexagonal base which supports turret ring.Something that I think should be unnecessary if turret ring was welded on the steel box or put on concrete but very useful if based on a wooden roof...The example found at Poland shows that steel base.
