Gumbinnenstellung (Ex. Königsberg)

Post by Bunkerfreak » 19 Jul 2015 20:00

Hello,

Found this 6-Schartenturm on Google Earth in the German WW2 Gumbinnenstellung 145km to the east of Königsberg. Now this is Russia, so a 6-Schartenstand in Russia

Notice the trenches !!

Pictures are from Panoramio:

As you all know, i'm working on a huge kmz-file with all (trying to) german bunkers from all defenselines in europe. My question in here is, does anyone know the type of this bunker? or is this just an 6-schartenturm they placed on a concrete base ?? (with an entrance, a bit like a very heavy tobruk)

I am not sure, but it is probably R113d similar to still existing bunker in Stützpunkt Deutscheck (Bakałarzewo).

Checked my sources, best answer I can give you is that it should be a bunker constructed in Baustärke B.
Going by the visible shape and the time frame it could very well be a Regelbau 112 or 113.

This is a Stützpunkt Schirwindt, it was discussed here too:

Regarding to Kurt Burk book here were 4 bunkers with 6 Schartentürme and 2 with 3 Schartentürme.

Could it be that the "Gumbinnenstellung" was a W.W. 1 name , because I can't find it on this map ??
The map is from end of the war , so maybe the name "Gumbinnestellung" was used in the early
days of W.W. 2 .

It was still called Gumbinnenstellung in February 1944.
There is also a Gumbinnenriegel near the town of Gumbinnen.

Since that map is from late 1944, is it possible that the Gumbinnenstellung had already been taken and was therefore left out?
The Gumbinnen Operation took place in October 44.

Gumbinnenstellung it is on north from Grenz-Stellung (a2). Please take a look on map - you will see it was canceled/retouched from map.

thank you all for the info's.

Now i'm wondering, in the masurische grenzstellung and galindestellung you can find a LOT of bunkers, where there also such amounts of regelbauten build on the other stellungen?

From the south it is Galindestellung, than Masurishe Grenzstellung to the Gumbinnenstellung on north.

Jos read my articles in the Bunkerbehoud magazine ;)
Here's the map I made.

The bunker at Schirwindt is a 112b. There were more turrets in the now Russian part of the Grenzstellung but unfortunately this is the only surviving example.

All names are used and are differ in German sources too.
