Hi Jos,

I understand it was just a single room SK Vf for the mounting of the gun and formed Wn. Hafenreserve. It was demolished in 1948 and the hotel went in the 1970's and is now replaced by the White Hart Pub.

Malcolm :milwink:

Hallo Malcolm
Are you sure this is a VF ? (1 meter thickness) because we see the panzerplatte before the gun like in a 506 or a 631 (and even these types didn t always get that extra protection of these extra panzerplatte
and how can you demolish the bunker when the hotel keeps standing till the seventies ?
i think the bunker support the upper level of the house ?

Dirk

Hi Dirk,

I am not sure. It could just be a reinforced single front wall for mounting the embrasure only. It can't be much more as the hotel rooms above are still there like you say.

As a possible comparison; the attached photos (CIOS Collection) shows a 4.7cm PakK 36 (t) installed in the corner of a building at St. Peter's Barracks (Wn. Peters Baracken), Jersey to fire over the airport runways. It only consists of the small amount of concrete to hold the embrasure and nothing more while the walls around and above it are the original stone walls of the building. The stonework under the embrasure on the outside view has been rebuilt but it does not look like the original wall above the embrasure has been disturbed.

Regards,
Malcolm :milwink:

. . . So it would only need a 2m thick wall to be able to fit the winch for the shield and the extra 'U' shaped plate around the embrasure as in a 631 etc. More Type 631b's were planned than were constructed in both Jersey and Guernsey and there is photo evidence of the outer 'U' shaped embrasure plates laying around at the Liberation so the Germans probably put it to good use.

Thanks Malcolm

Could be just a 1.50 cm wall , but it should have a pit for the counterweight.
