Where did the guns from Batterie Hänisch - Borkum go?
Where did the guns from Batterie Hänisch - Borkum go?
One of the 15 cm batteries on Borkum was the Batterie Hänisch with 4 - 15 cm SKL/45 in MPLC/13 apt. The "apt = aptiert i.e. modified" guns was 465 mm higher than a "normal" C/13 gun and could be elevated to 45 degrees (normal max elevation for a C/13 carriage was 19-22 degrees) This meant that the maximum range of the gun was about 23000 meters with a new barrel.
The guns were dismantled and used somewhere else, but so far I have no trace of the battery, although I suspect i to have gone to "Südost". After the Invasion in Normandy the battery position on Borkum was rearmed with 15 cm Tbts.L.C/36.
Any suggestions?

You are right. They went to Memel, but now I found out what happened.jopaerya wrote:Hello JEF

The guns went to Memel with the intention of beeing set up there, but were diverted by OKM to ship use in august 1940 as armament on the Artillerischiffe August, Helen, Ost and West.
August = SAT 3
Helene = SAT 4
Ost = SAT 1/SAT 28
West = SAT 2/SAT 20
Btw- SAT is an abbrevation for Schwere Artillerie Träger.

Re: Where did the guns from Batterie Hänisch - Borkum go?
Hi all,
According to photo caption, this is a gun of Batterie Hänisch, The gun shield resembles that of an 15cm Tbts.L.C/36 gun.
According to JEF, after the Invasion in Normandy the battery position on Borkum was rearmed with 15cm Tbts.L.C/36.
Was this batterie with 15cm Tbts.L.C/36 guns named Batterie Hänisch, too ?

It is Hänisch. I made some pictures in 2018 with the wartime photo's I have. Can't be different!

I recently acquired a new photoalbum from Batterie Hänisch, Borkum. The pictures are dating from the early Kriegsmarine period around 1936-1937. On the picture you can see the 15 cm SKL/45 in MPLC/13 with Signalstelle Ost and the Peilstand 1 from Batterie Coronel.
