Art in a MKB

#1

Post by Erik E » 21 May 2003, 22:31

Hallo!

Maybe not the proper place to post art, but since it is from a Coastal battery.........

These photos are from the remaining officer bar at "MKB Nordberg"
The paintings were done by one of the soldiers who served there.

This unique house is probably one of the best preserved German "barrack" in Norway!

No.......

The army is really afraid of this building being damaged, so it is not used for anything......Even not a museum!

hi
some translations:
first photo:
"...ist die Liebe zur See" = "..is the love for the sea/ocean"

second photo:
"....bin ick dörch die Welt gestüert" = " i was sailing around the world"
"So'n recht bet'n nördlich, so'n recht biet'n stief" = roughly translated: "just a bit north, just a bit ???"
"schön ist die Liebe im Hafen"="beautiful is the love in the harbour"

third photo:
"De welt is rund so as dir rad un oh som knubbels und sporen hat"=
"the world is round as the wheel and has some knobs and spurs"

okay, I' from germany, but some of these phrases are writen
in dialect from Hamburg, so perhaps someone from there could
translate them better than me

my 2 cents

Thanx MadderCat and welcome.
It must have been very boring for some Germans to be posted there.

Erik
Any idea if this building was built by local contractors to the Heer in Norway or by Germans themselves? Just curious is it has typical Norwegian design and style or not.
regards
A :)

As far as I know, most of the constructions in this area was carried out by German contractors. This building looks really simple on the outside, so it is difficult to tell......

However the "Luftwaffe casino" nearby is built in a style you see nowhere else in Norway!

Thanx Erik
That Casino does look very Germanic. One could probably find the same design at a Base or Barrack in Germany.
Nice pics. :D
See what a little Beer can accomplish.

Late reply on this topic, i could enter the barrack during my holiday, years back. I cant remember if there was an observer or the building was just open. I advice everybody, just go and take a shot. It was sooo worthy!

Amazing drawing in the last photo... It looks like a "Schwertwal" midget submarine! 8O

Must be a coinsidence, as that craft was developed late in the war and only one prototype was built (scrapped in 1945).

Nautilus and Brandtaucher fall roughly into that time frame.
