Anti tank gun identification help needed
Hi,
Can anyone identify what this anti tank gun is?
There are marks "R148 czp" and "F.Bs 1896" on it. Also "L4268" and "ebt 1943".
Thanks,
Henrik

The shield looks pretty thin to me to be the original ! I would have expected a real shield to be either thicker and more probably with dual plates.

Re: Anti tank gun identification help needed
The gun was also employed by the Finnish Army during the Continuation War. The Finns purchased 75 mm field guns from France in 1940, but were disappointed with their performance and in 1943, they reached an agreement with Germany about upgrading them to Pak 97/38 standards. 46 pieces were converted in March–June 1943. Seven of the guns were lost in combat, the rest remained in service after the war and were only retired in 1986.

Ok, thanks. The gun belongs to a relative of mine and he would like to sell it. Any ideas what would be a good forum to sell?
Re: Anti tank gun identification help needed
This gun looks like a post-war reconstruction made up from bits and pieces of damaged guns. The 7.5cm 97/38 barrel does not even appear to be fitted into the recoil slides, but seems to be welded or attached to the top of an ordinary 7.5cm PaK 40 carriage in place of the usual gun tube, with a metal loop added to the front to keep it there. The PaK 40 carriage is missing the top part of the normal gun shield, and so some sheet metal has been added to create a mock-up gun shield.
Re: Anti tank gun identification help needed
That can very well be the case. I don't know the history of it. I'll take some more pics next time I go there and try to look for welding marks etc.
Thanks!
