This is great....we're getting some answers!

LaThiebaut could indeed now be a candidate for inclusion on the list :o

Can anyone add more to this, great story developing here.

Cheers

Hi G,

The PaK Unterstellräumen at Wn. La Thiebaut is the same type as the 2 examples at Wn. Dune (the open one being constructed in mirror and La Thiebaut's twin has disappeared somewhere in Simons Sand pit!).

Not so sure these fall in to the Wa Pruf.Fest range as they all have integrated Tobruks and not the 45 degree observers open positions which are seen on true Wa Pruf.Fest bunkers. Although I could be wrong.

Malcolm :milwink:

I agree with Malcolm , the Pak Unterstelraumen have a standard tobruk and not the Wa.Pruf.Fest. model .

Well at least it discounts those positions with a sense of reasoning behind it.

Back to square one on the missing ones then :D

The Pak Unterstellraum must be a transitional design. It doesn't have the Wa.Pruf.Fest. model Beobachter but the whole part of the crew and ammo room and garage (including the ammo lift type 937S6) is similar to the Wa.Pruf.Fest.I type 52.

It could be it was altered after these remarks on the design in a letter from Inpektion der Festungen 39 (Entw.) In Fest (III) to the Gen d Pioniere on 26.11.1941 :
[..] Two adjacent periscope tubes are undesirable. Complicated floor plan. How does the Pak operating team come to the shelter for the Pak?

Hi,

It is interesting to note these Pak Unterstellraum bunkers were under construction in May 1943 and all were completed by October 1943. Guernsey was intended to have 2 as well but these were dropped by July 1943.

Below is the only known photo of a Pak Unterstellraum on Jersey and shows the 7.5cm Pak being handled out of the garage of the southern example at Wn. Dune. Note all the stacked rabbit hutches on the left for food!

Malcolm :milwink:

Malcolm and Arthur........nice.....can we compare layouts and see what conclusions it draws. Very interesting in terms of a possible hybrid design....or at least an inventive one?
