Post by TARTARIN » 08 Dec 2017 07:14

Hello,

What is this shelter in reinforced concrete a priori modular or kit?

Are there plans?

Hello,
For my part, I am skeptical:

Image

1) Needless ogival shape?
2) No easy access in case of failure
3) No fuel filler
4) No exhaust gas discharge port
5) Ridiculous dimensions when you know the size of the generators of the time!

Regards.

Hi,

These prefab shelters are also to be found in the Channel Islands at Luftwaffe 88mm Flak batteries for the storage of ammunition. They are fairly common as well.

The attached shows an example at La Moye on Jersey (1./GemFlakAbt 364) taken just after the liberation of Jersey and you can make out the shells stacked in their transport baskets inside! 8-) One of the 88's is also visible on the right.

They are very small and you have to crouch to get inside. I will go and measure one and let you know.

Hello,

In my opinion, if these constructions are similar, they do not have the same dimensions?

Regards.

The size of generators depends on the output that was needed.
On E-Bay you can find all kind of small generators that were used in the war but the generators to provide power for Flakbatteries or searchlights were much bigger and if stored in bunkers required a big bunker to store it safely for bombardments.

Hello

A couple of examples here, from a light flak position described in "German Defenses of the Western Front 1945 - AA Artillery - German Defenses, Western Front Vol 1" from NARA (No T-number).
