Post by Minotauros » 29 May 2003 09:25

Hi Folks !

Can someone tell me please what kind of anti tank guns were in use in the Italian Army between 1939 and 1942 ? Especially in those units fighting in Libya, Egypt an Tunisia ?

Thanks !

Hi Minotauros

The standard Italian anti-tank guns during the Second World War was the 4.7 cm Cannone anticarro e d'accompagnamento 47/32 Modello 35, which was the Italian version of the 4.7 cm Bohler Modell 1935 and a licenced built version of the ubiquitous 3.7 cm Pak 35/36.

They could also use any of the various types of anti-aircraft guns that were available to them in an anti-tank role as and when required.

They also used various anti-tank rifles obtained from the Germans such as the 7.92 mm M SS 41.

Regards

Bob

Thanks so much, Bob !

Now I see clearly in this domain !

It seems that those guns were rather obsolete and weren't efficient against Allied tanks in Africa, especialluy the M4 Shermans.
