3 m thick bunkers

#1

Post by dirk Peeters » 07 Jun 2018, 20:50

we found in belgium and france a lot of bunkers with enemy sides 3 m thick concrete, but never the entrance side which stays two meters
some exeptions like in Tourcoing there we have some 622 and others with a thickness of 3 m all sides
In Danemark we found some of the Luftwaffebunkers with three meters all around , even the entrance side
this cost a lot of concrete for bunkers like a L 409a , L 411
anyone has a logical solution why these bunkers are so costly and for what reason ?
i ll place some plans this evening
Dirk

Hi Dirk, according to the germans bunkers that could not be completely be built underground, and thus be vulnerable for horizontal fire should recieve 50% thicker walls on the side that were most likely to be attacked.
Most bunkers have the entrance on the safe side so ticker walls were not neccesery.

In Scheveningen we have al ot bunkers with ticker walls due to the high groundwaterlevel.
Our 608 and 622's at the verteidigungsstab have 3 meter walls on all sites.
Dont ask me for the document right now.. but i have it from german doc :D
Gr, Tim

Strange is that the Luftwaffe flak bunkers in Radarposts in Holland and Denmark have 3 meter walls
and in France all Luftwaffe flak bunkers in Radarposts are just in 2 meter

Thanks jos
Could it be from the festungspioniere in command ? Or from the luftwaffe staff ? That they wish this thickness
The radarpostsbunkers itself seems only in two meters

Dirk, could it be those 622 were used as commandbunker for the widerstandsnest Or stutzpunkt?

Here in stp. Gr. Scheveningen most of the landfront widerstandsnester have 622 with lots of communication equipment, 3 M walls and extra emergency exits.. we think those were the command bunkers.

I wonder if this was usual, of it is because abteilung siedlung und Bauten (Seyss Inquart) were responsible for the landfront..

Looking back to the neue westwallperiod, in Holland the VF bunkers in Luftwaffe radarcomplex built on the first dune also receiver thicker walls, 1.5 meters, but some even 2 meters "schußsicher" (Zander if i'm right).

The reason could be that the Luftwaffe flak bunkers in Holland and Denmark were under
command of Luftflotte Reich/Mitte and Belgium and France under command of Luftflotte 3 ??
