vk30.01 turrets as Turmstellungen

Post by daveh » 31 May 2003 14:38

In Germany's Tiger Tanks vol 1 there is reference to the use of vk30.01 turrets as Turmstellungen.

5/5/44 a report stated 6 series 0 turrets had been released for such use and 26/3/45 report stated all 6 had been used in the Atlantic Wall or West Wall.

The Pz.Kw. - Turm VK30.01 was to be installed in Ringstand, Bauform 246

Does anyone ( hello Eric :) ) happen to have plans or photos relating to these turrets?

In hope ..

Yes.

a while ago on http://www.achtungpanzer.com there was a picture of several Tiger I turrets mounted in a range, or a gunnery school, in a concrete base, next to another with several crewmen on top, posing.

I do not seem to find the picture or linkanymor eon the site ..anyone?

believe me, I have been searching for the picture high and low for the last year, maybe somenone has seen it.

it is a line of tiger I turrets and the caption mentions is a tiger gunnery school, there are panzer crewmembers sitting (posing) in top of most of the turrets, all pointing forward sitting in along concrete base, side by side.

here the bauforme is mentioned again:

26/3/45 report stated all 6 had been used in the Atlantic Wall or West Wall.

I have seen this too.....
Personally I think it is a mix-up with the schoolturrets on the photo above.
I also think that this list is a status of what has been built the latest year(s?), and not for the entire war. Several of the numbers can easily be proved wrong. (Renault FT17 turrets isn`t even on the list!)

There are many examples of various bauform`s for turrets (and other weapons) which have never been proved to actually have made it from the drawingboard and into the field.
