Gunbunker Bredene (BE)

#1

Post by myt1prod » 05 Jun 2019, 18:14

Hello

I found these photo's of the workers-tourist-union on the net; the photo's are dated in 1945 and should have been taken at Bredene.
The gunbunker seems to be a R612 or R671. The OB is laying just behind the bunker and there seems to be a ringstand built into the protecting wall of the OB.
The other two photo's have the same caption, so possibly taken at the same location. In the background we see another bunker, high on the dune.

Anyone who has an idea which Stronghold it could be? As De Haan lies nearby, it could also be situated in the dunes of De Haan.

The first two photo looks to been taken by a 669 at the left of the 28cm railway batterie at Bredene ( Stp. Bruchmüller )
but that does not fit because of the aerial photo from 1953 you see break water dams and I don't see then on your photo ??

indeed no breakwaters... and it's low tide on the photo's so you should see them. Also the OB looks more rounded as the structures on your photo are more angular, also on your picture; the structure behind the gunbunker is almost as large as the gunbunker itself.... doesn't seem to fit the above images at all

Hello Jos and Jean

I don't agree with you. Many breakwaters were built after WW2 (and many of them with material from destroyed bunkers).
If you look on the air pictures from 1944, you will see that in this time only the breakwater 1 to 4 were existing in Bredene. Breakwaters 5 to 7 were built shortly after the war. (bunker emplacement in the red circle)

For me the bunker on the picture is the Schartestand on the Est side of Stp Bruchmüller. The walls around the platform perfectly match with the air picture.

@ Jos: why do you think it is a 669? There is no Stahlrost (exhaust Grid) left of the back entrance and this is a feature of the 669, isn't it?

Oke Pierre

So the location is correct , I think it's a 669 because of the form of the bunker on the aerial photo from 1953 .

OK thanks,
is this still the Stp Bruchmüller or Stp von der Goltz... because the line between these two isn't that clear and both are mentioned as having a R612 according to telenet/Atlantikwall-15tharmy-website

Hello Jean

Stp von der Goltz is located west of Stp Bruchmüller, so toward Ostend. The Schartestand we talk here about is located to the east side of Stp Bruchmüller, so toward De Haan. The next position after Stp Bruchmüller toward the East is the WN Derflinger II with only a single 667 Schartestand shooting westward and some other light constructions

Hello Pierre

Do I understand you correct that the last two photo's of the four could not be in WN Derflinger II ??

Hello Jean
Here's the aerial view of Wn Derflinger (1945). It doesn't match indeed with your pictures.

@pierrot there is a second Schartenstand inside this strongpoint aiming toward Stp Bruchmüller..

It looks like the 669 has a roof that is not 200cm thick.
