Westwall bunker design?
Hello,
In Jersey we have quite a few VF bunkers which have a 7P7 plate fitted to the roof (as in the links).
It is said they are Westwall designs, is this correct?

Re: Westwall bunker design?
in fecamp is a 636 with a 7p7 above the obs room
Re: Westwall bunker design?
Malcolm, I do not not have very specific knowledge about the WW other then visiting it three times and reading books about it.
Never seen any drawings or pictures of bunkers that are similar or look alikes.
There are however early light bunkers from where the sperres along the border were protected against an enemy attack.
But these lack the 7P7 roof, the only real type that comes to mind is the 509 that had a 7P7 as roof above a observationroom.
Also in the East (Pommernstellung, Oderstellung, Heilsberg etc.) I can not remember seeing photo's of similar MG bunkers, in the East the 7P7 was used on non standard type bunkers in the same way as the 509 (on top of a observationroom).
When the building on the A-Wall started the 7P7 was already to thin to withstand high velocity rounds from AA and tanks.
But I presume the bunkers on the CI were made before the real building on the AW started and before the Vorsatzplatte and Zusatzplatte were introduced so they could still use the 7P7.
But I do not have any written documents as proof.

Re: Westwall bunker design?
also the 615 ... and there are others so also done in the atlantikwall in new designs
Re: Westwall bunker design?
But Dirk, these were not built in the Westwall.
These are typical AW types and not designed for the Westwall.

Re: Westwall bunker design?
the question is i thought these bunkers with 7P7 platte are westwall designs ? so i answered with these AW types no proof for westwall
Re: Westwall bunker design?
Same with me Dirk, never seen anything similar.
They are about 1m thick and the 7P7 is used as roof, I presume they were built before the building of te Atlantikwall started.
They have one or two schartes for MG, the room is a bit smaller than the 7P7, The opening of the 7P7 was probably used for
the obeservation while the bunkers are very low and hard to spot by the enemy.
We only seen these on Guernsey and Jersey not on Alderney (some 7P7 were used as roof for light observationbunkers on Alderney).
Most of them are built just behind (or even in) the later built AT walls.
