Schnabelstand

#1

Post by Theakker3 » 04 May 2020, 20:16

German Observation Bunkers for gun batteries along the Atlantic Wall from WWII. I have only heard these types of bunkers called 'Schnabelstand' which I think translates to "Beak Position" if I'm not mistaken. The bunker is most notorious for being incorrectly depicted as a machinegun emplacement in the movie Saving Private Ryan. Does anyone have more information on these installations and their correct classification? I don't want to keep referring to them as 'Schnabelstand' if that is incorrect.

hello,
your picture 2 is not schanbelstand. is a Fk-bunker or (festungbau kanal) bunker. the schanbelstand is very spècial form (front and inside).for observation and rifle,Mg defend the beach. (etretat,Wissant, fecamp) ext ...For the film of spieberg is fantasme, never build schanbelstand between ouistreham and cherbourg.

I know how the one in SPR is incorrect and I know all about the actual German defenses along the real 'Omaha' sector. So what is the difference between the 'FK-Bunker' and the 'Schnabelstand'?
