Saving Private Ryan Schnabelstand

We all know the famous German Schnabelstand bunker from the Omaha Beach scene in Saving Private Ryan, and I think we all know that there were absolutely NO schnabelstand emplacements along the real Omaha Beach.

My question is, are the Germans correctly using the Schnabelstand in Saving Private Ryan? The movie depicts the Germans using it as a machinegun nest. From what I have researched, I thought the Schnabelstand bunker was intended as an observation post and nothing more, and I thought machinegun 'pillboxes' along the Atlantic Wall used small single embrasures and not a large horizontal slit.

Yes you can use it to fire. As fasr as i know they where mostley built for monitoring blind spots in the defence.
Why a new topic?

That is what I thought. As some were positioned along the shingle, such as at WN 111, which were probably intended as MG emplacements. While ones upon cliffs and escarpments were intended as observation posts. Do you know any good books that mention these bunkers? And I made a new topic just because I was posing a different question than my previous Schnabelstand forum.

hello,
one book is in preparation on the schanbelstands,we are working on it. I won't tell you more
when at the bunker in the movie commercial of spielberg is not a schanbelstand !! the name indicates "bird beak" due to his form.in the movie he doesn't look like schanbelstand.

please see the front form . (I don no the source because the drawing belongs to JL and my association)

Ps: I don't know where he is looking for the historical information but much of it is false in the SPR.
(the beach, the bunker, the scene, the station radar wiht the mammut ext ...)

I think that the movie makers forgot to ask the Germans about the usage.
Normally movies are not historical records.
Thanks,
