MAA 508 & 509 positions Denmark
Gents, I hope I may ask your help with a document lot I just purchased. It's from a painter, who served with several MAA unit in Denmark as NCO, notably ;
8./MAA508 in Spodsbjerg with four 127mm guns
5./MAA509 in Faarup Klit (Kettrup Bjerge) with four 150mm guns = is this Lokken?
11./MAA509 in Faarup Klit (Taarup Hede) = is this Lokken?
The Fuhrungsbuch is quite interesting, because it shows the judgement of his superiors about him. In this case, he was an average soldier, but a good comrade.
However, I can't find a lot of information on the net about the current state of these batteries. Could you help me out? Looking forward to see some photos of his stations.
Thanks in advance,
Maurice

8./M.A.A. 508 was located near Hundested.
Haven't visited it myself, but probably not much to see there.
No large bunkers anyway.
5./M.A.A. 509 was Sperrbatterie Lökken Süd, south of Løkken.
Lots of bunkers still there, but the site is a summer house area now.
11./M.A.A. 509 manned a 12 cm battery, present at the same location until the 15 cm guns of 5./M.A.A. 509 were operational.
Later it manned two 7.5 cm Schweigegeschütze in support of 5./M.A.A. 509.
The gun emplacements should still exist.

Hello
Some pictures from 8./MAA 508 Spodsbjerg. They are taken shortly after the liberation in may or june 1945.
Some are from newspaper clipping and others are from Danish National Archive - you can see the different quality of the photos.
First a couple of the site today and then, and as TH says - there is nothing left today.
Regards
Kurt

As promised some photos, the human touch behind the concrete. The lot I bought consists of Soldbuch, some photos, Führungsbuch and post war documents. They are named to Jozef Stelzig, who was born in 1920 in Maria-Ratschnitz and served from 1940 till 1945 in mainly Marine Artillerie units. Most of the time he spent in Denmark with MAA 508 and 509. he survived the war.

Hello Maurice,
Thank you for sharing.
However, I am afraid that your identification of the battery is not completely correct.
In 1942, 8./M.A.A. 508 was not the battery Spodsbjerg, which was not emplaced until the autumn of 1944.
The battery with that number in 1942 was situated at Gedser on the southern tip of the island of Falster. It was a 12 cm battery armed with 4 pcs. Danish guns.
In october 1942, it was moved to Faarupklit (Lökken-Süd) on the west coast of Jutland and became 12./M.A.A. 509. In connection with a reorganisation in 1944 it got a new number: 5./509.
Best regards
Jens

Thanks for the correction jens!
That indeeds matches with the page from the Führungsbuch, which mentions Gedser as place where it was filled in and signed.
Kind regards,
Maurice
