Hello

On this map of 06/06/1940 (ref T1022 R1834) you can see the possible location of German batteries on the Belgian coast.
I know Yorck, Hamburg and the UTO battery at Zeebrugge , but what are the 2 x 8.8cm at Ostende?

Hello Dirk

On this list you see also the two 8.8 cm gun in Oostende , they must be W.W.1 Flak-gun from Krupp reused by the Belgium Army.

Jos,

I was under the impression that the Belgian 8.8 cm K-Flak had been relined to 75 mm. We had some discussions here:

viewtopic.php?f=70&t=191939

Instead were any German 8.8 cm SK coastal guns handed over by the Germans to the Belgians after WW1? Or any German 8.8 cm SK coastal guns from Marine Korps Flandern left in position in good shape?

Hello Emmanuel

You are right, but in 1939 the Belgian Army used all weapons what they could find in stocks
like 17 cm S.K.l/40 , 12 cm de Bange , Maybe they were also 2 x 8.8 cm guns on stock because
two separate documents with the same information .

Regards Jos

These 8,8cm could also be leftovers from the scrapped Belgian navy. After WW! Belgium received 17 ex-German torpedo boats, 2 submarines and twenty minesweepers. Though these had the 8,8cm deck gun, the two U-boats never made it into Belgian service (see: http://www.forumeerstewereldoorlog.nl/v ... c4db4a410e). But I can imagine the torpedo boats and minesweepers had among them some arsenal, that may have included 8,8cms. The vessels were scrapped after about a decade of "service".

Here you can find the fate of the coastal torpedo boats that had been interned in the NL and handed over under Versailles to Belgium. Several had 2 x 8,8cms :)
