Re: ARKO 118
Etienne, 709ID had it's HQ in Chateau de Chiffrevast, the ARKO 118 was not attached to a division (a division had his ARKO -without a number-).
I wondered where ARKO 118 had It's HQ, I came across the ARKO 118 in the NARA rolls of Rommel papers.
Alain, Thanks a lot.
Were there bunkers built or was the HQ in the same bunker as LXXXIV AK (ARKO 118 was subordinated to LXXXIV AK)?
Thanks and greetings Jack.

Re: ARKO 118
Hi, actually the Arfue (not Arko) of a division was the commander of its artillery regiment.
The Arko was an artillery advisor of the Army corps and also commanded the artillery of the corps, being mainly HKA and sometimes light - heavy artillery.
The Arko 118 was long time in StLo but (from memory) somewhere end 43/early 44 it was relocated to Chiffrevast to direct the left flank of the area of command of 74AK. An extra Arko was established for the right flank, being Arko 474. I think 74AK was the only AK in ObWest territory to have two Arkos

Re: ARKO 118
Pretty much correct Peter. Just a couple of details:
- you're confusing LXXIV.A.K. with LXXXIV.A.K.
- The transfer of Arko 474 to Normandy took place in May 1944 (to take over the Calvados)
Arko 118 acted as the Arfü of the 709ID after it arrived on the peninsula in January 1944. In fact its commander (Hamann) was in charge of the division while the actual Div.Kdr. was away on D-Day. The situation with the 709ID was a bit unusual as the staff of AR1709 was located in Festung Cherbourg and the regiment covered the north coast of the peninsula. The commander of the regiment was the Arfü of the Festung.
