Hello all,
During a recent exploration in the area of Voula, a southern suburb of Athens, Greece, I came across a complex of bunkers connected with concrete lined and covered trenches on top of a hill. The exact location of it is 37.849672, 23.788240.
Among the fortifications there were these two bunkers, which I presume they are a type of mortar tobruks. Maybe they housed the 8cm Granatwerfer 34, judging from the ledge on the outer walls?
About the second one, I am also wondering what those destroyed protruding pieces were for.
I attach some pictures of the bunkers, as well as the plan of the first one I did. In both bunkers the dimensions of the mortar pit were the same, but the height of the walls and the concrete pole was bigger.
So could anyone identify these two bunkers?
Thanks in advance!

Hello Archste. Althought the Athens itself were German occupation zone, the pensinsula south of Athens was part of the Italian sector. The bunker is typical Italian machine-gun nest. The column is for the rear leg of HMG tripod, two front legs were placed to the niche around the entire nest. See the example from Zara (Zadar).

Thank you both for the rresponses! The photographs are very interesting.
Does this specific type of emplacement have a name to describe it? Like the postazione circolare monoarma for example?

Generally, those small open weapon emplacements are called Nuclei Armati Supplementari (N.A.S.). I have never heard any precise name for this round MG pit.
