Stützpunkt 277 MKB York

#1

Post by pvv8 » 07 Dec 2022, 14:45

Hi there,

In regard to my coming visit to Normandy, I'm looking for more info about Stützpunkt 277 MKB York, more in particularly...

1. Are the casemates M271 or M272 ?
2. What is the difference between those two ( besides that a M272 is smaller ), I found a drawing of a M272 but not from a M271.
3. Can anybody confirm that the name "York" relates to "Johann David Ludwig Graf Yorck ( also spelled as York ) von Wartenburg" a former Prussian Generalfeldmarschall ?

Thx in advance
Patrick

:welcome: Patrick

Afaik there is no original drawing of the M 271 known so we can't be sure if this is the bunker in Yor(c)k or a M 272 abg
For the name both names were used in several documents York and Yorck

Jos, bedankt voor de info !

The only difference that I have found
M271 Width 12,50 Depth 16,50 Height 7,70
M272 Width 12,50 Depth 13,50 Height 7,10
However as MKB York housed the same guns as MKB Heerenduin the chances are very high that they used the same Regelbau i.e. M272

Furthermore the name "Yor(c)k refers (more than) probably to our above mentioned Prussian Generalfeldmarschall, same as MKB Brommy named after Konteradmiral Karl Rudolf Brommy.

Regards
Patrick

@jos. Is Rolf's plan of a M 271 based on Batterie Yorck?

The difference is visible in the gun room. The M 272 back wall is 'flat'. The M 271's walls are in an angle.

Hello

@ Arthur Yes Rudi combined the building plans named with M 271 with the drawing of York,
I never seen a original drawing of the M 271 only names with Schartenstand M 271 ( planned Cadzand and OT Cherbourg )

A option could be that B. York had no St ammo bunkers like Heerenduin , so they expanded the two ammo niche's

@ Patrick agree we see B. Tirpitz , Ramin , Knorr and many other German naval officers

Yes M 270 is totally different. Has big ammunition rooms and entrance defence at the back. I see you get this info from my website Bunkersite. :) The source is Rudi Rolf. Take this info as a general approach. Local situation can be different. And buy his book Atlantikwall Typologie! It has all the different bunker plans.

Or that It was made to fit in a bigger canon, the angle of the wall is more or less the same as the wall from a R686 Schartenstand für 19,4 cm

Not easy to find in Belgium, uitgeverij De Slegte = sold out

Had also a look for "Atlantikwall Veldboekje", author Pascal Cornel is not found either or also sold out
