Regelbau starting with "H"
Hello,
The following Regelbau bunkers starting with an "H"
Regelbau H636a
Regelbau H650 at HKB Marcouf / Azeville
Regelbau H667
Regelbau H669
Regelbau H671 at HKB Marcouf / Azeville
Regelbau H683
Does somebody know whether the "H" stands simply for "Heer" or could it be "Hülzengrube" ?
Regards
Patrick

Re: Regelbau starting with "H"
It's made up by French bunkerologists (M = Marine, L = Luftwafe so army (Heer) bunkers should have H) but it's never been used like this by the Germans. So forget about the H! It's just 636a, 650, etc etc.

Bedankt AvB
And is the following correct, coming from Wikipedia
quote
Whilst constructions were undertaken and planned by the OT for the Heer (army), the Kriegsmarine (navy) and Luftwaffe (airforce) would also man some of the fortifications, and they had their own designs and designations of fortifications, the Navy used M (Mittlere or Medium) for normal sea defence batteries with S (Schwere or Heavy) for the larger calibre guns, with FL (Flak or anti-aircraft) and V (Versorgung or support) for other emplacements,

Re: Regelbau starting with "H"
Yes it’s correct. Although the V is still under debate. I’ve never seen the explanation in a German doc. And the Germans themselves had trouble with it as well. I’ve seen both M 414 and S 414, Fl 246 and M 246, but the explanation was logical as the M 246 was built in a medium coastal battery.
. But I would stick to the original designations.
It’s good to ask these questions. Keeps everybody sharp.
Also by calling out French bunkerologists I’m not saying all of them.
And yes there are some documents which mention the H, but these are exceptions.

Like I said, I try to double check these things, because you can find on websites different names / interpretations . Or even "mistakes" that are taken over from each other...

Re: Regelbau starting with "H"
maybe a local convention, I don't know, or maybe an evolution over time as the German army evolved. However the term appears on original German documents

Re: Regelbau starting with "H"
Thanks for your reply, if there is smoke there is fire
However I presume that the "H" stands for "Heer" and not " Hülzengrube"...
If you are the writer from some books regarding the Atlantikwall, than I have another question...
It concerns Wn 241 ( it's on my list for my coming trip to Normandy )
It's mentioned as " Fort des Roches ", is it not possible that it's a "local" name and the official name should be " Fort de Digosville " formerly "Batterie de Bretteville-haut " ?
Best regards
Patrick
