Heavy Flak guns
You think that the 128mm Flak was big, this is nothing. Looking for info for my friend I found this: http://www.europa1939.com/whermacht/art ... rflak.html
It is in spanish but I used babelfish to translate it. It tells about a 150mm flak gun, it used an autoloader sistem, maybe because the shells was to heavy for fast firing normally used in AA guns. But this is unsignificant compared to a 240mm Flak!!!, it was able to put a 177kg explosive shell at a ceiling of 16.700 meters with a velocity of 965 meters per second!, if a 88mm shell explosion scare the crews imagine one 3 times more strong.

Hi
The largest AA gun ever was the German naval 38 cm S.K.C/34 8)
The German Battleships Bismarck and Tirpitz actually had firing solutions for their 38 cm guns against aerial targets.
That means that the guns did not fire directly into the air, but into the sea in front of the attacking enemy torpedo planes instead. I am quite sure that no torpedo plane pilot wished to fly through a 100 meter high water column, suddenly appearing in front of him
Regards

The Yamato was equiped with timed multicoloured shells for their 460mm guns to be used as flak guns probably against torpedo bombers. Probably was used, if you check the photos of the Yamato under attack you will notice that the guns are aimed to a side, probably shoting a torpedo aircraft formation.moses wrote:actually the yamato had shotgun-style shells designed for AA use (18.1")
