My latest discoveries......
My latest discoveries......
Hallo!
I have been travelling much lately to see the last places form this year before the winter settles. I was thinking of showing you "A complete weekend with me" as a last bunker thread for this year
Background:
Lista is one of a few areas in Norway with real beaches. The distance to England is only 500Km`s. Just after the invasion, the Germans started the construction of a massive defence system. A huge airport and 4 coastal batteries are all located in the same area! It is all surrounded by several strongpoints. The list of bunkers seems to be endless, but last weekend, I went there for the 4th time this year to add some more
Friday 24/10-03
Left work at 15:30. Got a flat tire after 5 minutes!!!! I couldn`t go all that way on my sparetire so I had to buy a new one!
One hour delayed, I picked up my two friends. We left town at 18:00.....
The distance to this "target" is 200Km`s, which means allmost 3 hours driving (On Norwegian roads!) Arrived just after 21:00 in the house we had borrowed.
Saturday 25/10-03
The action begins!
At 10:00 we met the guard at the airport area. After the war, every bunker got in the hands of the Norwegian army. Most of them were closed down in the late 40`s, but the "big ones" were kept. A few are still owned by the army, but not used anymore.
We started off in the Hq area on a hill above the airfield. First bunker was told to be a "Gefechtsstand". It turned out to be a R-608 in pretty good shape! Most of the ventilation system had been dismantled for Museum purposes. There was once central heating in the whole bunker. The radiators were still in place, but the oven is gone forever......

Just 100 meters from the 608, we got into one of our main goals for the weekend. This unknown bunker type was used by the Luftwaffe. As far as my sources are going, we are looking at the Flak Hq for the whole area!
The bunker was 99% intact! Everything was still in place.
I`ll let the images speak for themselves.......

I got into some technical problems yesterday, so i will continue today!
Well then!
After the Hq, we crossed the road to a nearby flak battery. According to some old maps, the battery had 6x8.8cm flak.....
There were 2 kinds of emplacements. Concrete and earthwalls. The barracks were made in stone and hidden partially under the ground. Just behind the battery, there were 2 bunkers (Type Vf7a) with some nice electrical equipment left. A rather unique detail was a engraved swaztika on one of the emplacements!
No idea..... Never seen it before, but I suspect it coud be a post war modification.....What is that thing on the lower right side on the ventilation photo???
2 meters outer walls, 80cm`s between the rooms. How thick are the walls?
The 608 was totally stripped.... All items went to a musem a few years ago.I was just wondering if you had any photos of the toilet inside the R-608 and in what shape it is found.

We were invited down to the airport to have a look inside the old German officers "Barrack" Infact, it is a beautiful house in German style! I had only seen it from the outside before.....
The entire interior was rebuilt, but a few German paintings were kept!

After seeing some art, we headed for our first strongpoint.
A small map found inside a book, gave us the feeling that there could be something here......
It turned out to be 2 tankturrets placed on bunkers! It wasn`t really suprising, as we have located 16 turrets around the airport.
The first turret is a modified PzKpfwII Flamingo, and the otherone, a PzKpfw38(t) turret.
