60cm-Mörser Karl
Re: 60cm-Mörser Karl
Hi Jos,
Look here;
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karl-Ger%C3%A4t
It seems every gun was unique (seven guns made and seven types).
But all had similarities.
Could this General Karl Becker (the guns are named after him as the Karl Gerät)
be the same one as the Becker that converted many French beute tanks in to Sfl?
Greetings Jack.

Hello Jos, very interesting is "Volks-Artillerie-Korps 410 (21 cm)" - that means the VI./410 = 21 cm-Wurfmörser 69 -Abteilung

Re: 60cm-Mörser Karl
I was recently watching a documentary show about the capture of the Ludendorff Bridge at Remagen by the Americans and they mentioned the Germans deploying a Karl mortar in an attempt to destroy the bridge. The show said a few shots were fired (which missed) prior to the weapon malfunctioning. Based on Bjorn's operational history at the beginning of this thread, a likely candidate would be "Zui". Could it be that the "malfunction" led to the abandonment of the weapon and its subsequent capture?
Anyone have further info about this deployment?

The first pic you post is a K5E 28cm.
