Re: 88mm RWfr.43 ?
Pueppchen sights were actually scalled from 180 to 700 m, what coresponded to actual ranges from 140-550 m to 200-850 m depending of temperature.Range was not as important as it might seem given that the EFFECTIVE range of Püpchen sights was only 230m
Rather not, if my memory serves me. I think first launchers were delivered somewhere in the autumn of 1943, while first bigger ammo lots in early 1944 only.I have a question...I read somewhere that this weapon Puppchen entered service in march 1943, can anyone confirm this?
It's obviously a Pueppchen prototype - it only lacks the shield and gas deflector, wheels are removed and wheel axles are of slightly different construction. Very interesting find! It's this a forrunner from the 8.8 cm R-Werfer 43 or the Karola or a other device ???

Re: 88mm RWfr.43 ?
I believe the idea is to have a weapon that used less propellant and/or can be fired from inside a bunker.

Re: 88mm RWfr.43 ?
Hi AvB,
Regarding the top picture, it is not a 5 cm Pak 38 but a 7,5 cm Pak 97/38. But the wheels are different from what we normally see, at least the one in the front.
I think there are two 8,8 cm Pak 43/41 guns: a Pak 43/41 (with elevated barrel, the shield is visible as well as the top of one wheel) and behind another Pak 43/41 with the horizontal barrel.

NO RESPECT FOR WAR MONUMENTS !
Two Püppchen were recently stolen from a small town in Brittany, France. Be on the look-out (BOLO) !

Re: 88mm RWfr.43 ?
Any evidence of the weapon being used by Fallschirmjäger formations?
Was it phased out to the Volkssturm at the end of the war? I've seen Volkssturm units being presented with it.

Thanks, I found it myself just after the request. It is the only documentation I have found so far though.
Re: 88mm RWfr.43 ?
Here is an excerpt from Oberst von der Heydte, CO of FJR.6 in Normandy, in its debriefing by the US Army in 1948: "Later on, this [14th AT] company was also equipped with Püppchen (88 mm heavy AT rocket launchers)".Daniel L wrote:Any evidence of the weapon being used by Fallschirmjäger formations?
