Unfinished positions (Fl307?) for 12,8cm Flak 40 at Marine-Flak-Batterie 4./715 Charlottenlund (Trondheim, Norway).

There were at least two Flakzwilling 40s at Bremerhaven. One was destroyed as Allied Armies approached, the other is under my care here at Fort Sill. It used to be at Aberdeen and was neglected for decades. It will be cosmetically restored this year.

Hi Natter,
Thanks a lot. It is not often we see these "small things" with Schaltung. Please note the tubes for drainage and cables.

@ Natter Thanks for the great picture of the concrete base, the concrete base for the 12.8 cm Flak 40 M
should have a opening as you can see at the base at Charlottenlund and was used to bring in the barrel
please see the drawing in this topic ( page 7 ) .

@ Jon Are you sure that the 12.8 cm Flakzwillung 40 M are from Bremenshaven , that would mean they are
naval one and not Luftwaffe one's . Is this the same as the picture's I have seen that the guns were placed
on a Culemeyer in Aberdeen .

Jos,

Yes, it's the same turret that was on the Culemeyer. As far as the paperwork that accompanied the gun is concerned, this was at Bremerhaven and the demo charges did not go off like they did on it's counterpart. Any idea how many Naval versions were made and what the difference is? I've got most of the major Flak books and haven't seen anything distinguishing the two.

Are there major differences between the guns themselves of the zwilling and the regular 12,8 cm 40m ?

Hi Jon and Erwin

I don't know if there are differences between the Luftwaffe and Kriegsmarine 12.8 cm guns ( single and twin )
except for the name ( the extra M ) , I have seen naval 12.8 cm twins in Gotenhafen and Wilhelmhaven for sure
but have no fact on the exact number of naval 12,8 cm twins . According to your information there were also 12.8 cm
twins in Bremenshaven .

I'm back in the office on Tuesday. I'll see what other information I can pull from the file.

The documents listed in this intelligence-report (source: NARA via DHA) might give some information?
I assume they are to be found at NARA or another US archive?

Hello,

Yes 12,8 cm flak. You can make the difference between 12,8 and 10,5 cm Flak in looking the upper triangular part. If the fire barrel is incuded in the triangular part then it's a 10,5. On the 12,8 only the recoil barrel is includend, not the fire barrel.
