Hi
Every tower had a heavy battery with 4 guns an a light battery with 9 - 12 Guns 2 cm quads and 3,7 cm single or twin guns.
The heavy ones were installed on the top level, the light ones on the lower level.

There were different types of Flak-towers. The standard AA-Gun on those was the 12,8 cm Flak 40 and later the 12,8 cm Flak 40 twin.hoffe_salem2 wrote:how many guns and wich sort of guns was there on the flaktowers,,,it must have bin some 128mm flak but how many and was there any light flak cannons????

Hello
I would say that this is the Tiergarten bunker ( Zoo ).
The difference in the pictures is because they are taken in different angles and different timeframe of the War.
As the bombing of Berlin proceeded, the houses ( ruins ) and trees simply dissapeared, and therefore sometimes it is today difficult to precise the identity. And also, the different bunkers were more or less identical in structure as well, and that does not make the ID any easier !!

For what it's worth. If you have spare time on your hands I Uploaded temporarily a 9 sec clip of your flak tower. It's the same clip your picture is from with an over flight (just) of said tower. Clip is from a program Called War Stories from one on Berlin that aired here back in June or so. Clip is 2.43mb in size. Larger than it needs to be but for the short time it will be available I am not bothered to make it smaller.watty2000 wrote:I captured this picture from the end of "The World at War - Warrior" documentary and am extremely curious as to whether this is the Tiergarten flak tower. Unfortunately, this was the last frame in the clip so I'm struggling to get my bearings as to what direction the plane was flying in from. I don't even know if this is Berlin as there was no hint in !
I am confused. Thanks in advance for any light shed on this mystery.
Clip will Be Removed On or Before 14 January 2005

This one is actually in the Stiftskaserne military post (the one show from the air).
For more shots of how the Berlin and Vienna flak towers look now, see
